End of Week 5

As I sit here on Sunday afternoon, I feel so very blessed.  We are 1 week away from Tom finishing his pre-surgery treatment, Layne has graduated from college and I have all of my family in the same house, for now.

Layne and Zeke arrived this past Friday morning at about 3a.m.  They are here for the next few months, mostly likely for a bit longer than we had first thought.   They are willing to put their plans on hold for a time to stay as long as we need them.

You may be wondering if Tom is finishing up his treatments why we may need them longer.  This is the first phase of his treatment.  Yes, it is possible that the tumor could be completely gone and that is our prayer.  If it is, we will give all the glory to God!  However, we also have to be prepared for what has to happen if it is not completely gone.  That is surgery and another round of treatment.

We go to talk with a surgeon in Nashville on Wednesday.  Honestly, we don't know what to expect except to just establishing a relationship with him.  It is our understanding that they will not perform anymore tests until 6 weeks after the last week of treatment.

Tom is doing better than expected at this point in treatment.  The doctor and clinical trial nurse were both amazed at the small number of side effects that he has had.  We just smiled, knowing that it is due to all the prayers, nationwide for him.  It is so comforting to know that people are praying for you coast to coast and in a few foreign countries as well! We can really tell!

Please continue to pray as he goes into this last week.  The treatments build on one another so the pain  and other effects get worse each week.  Thanks for all the cards, calls and visits.  It means so much to us, we could never put it into words.

We love you all,
Jan and Tom
