Tom's Followup

Tom went back to the oncologist yesterday to find out what his follow up treatments would involve.  The answer was not what we expected.  The pathology report from the surgery showed that 4 out of 32 lymph nodes were cancerous.  The surgeon could not tell that these were cancerous because they were normal size but when they tested them they found the cancer.  This means that instead of 16 weeks of chemo as follow up, there will be 6 months of chemo.  He will go next Tuesday to have CAT and PET scans done and then begin chemo on Wednesday.  The chemo will consist of a one hour infusion and then wearing the pump for 2 days.  He will do this every 2 weeks for a total of 12 treatments.

To say the least this is not what we had hoped or expected still God is in control.  This is just another twist in the road that has been ordained for us.  This will be very intense chemo.  Dr. Mainwaring told us to expect that Tom will not be able to work through much of it.  That was as much a blow to us as anything that was said!  He has been told that he can work from home some.  We just pray that he will feel well enough to do that.

Needless to say, we again ask for your prayers!
